EPIPHANY MACHINE / FIELD TRANSMISSION
Fracture and convergence.
A glitch is a border under pressure. A finished work is one way through it.
01
The seam becomes visible
A seamless world can conceal the agreements that hold it together. The image appears to possess one space, one time, one rule for what belongs beside what. Introduce a second reality and the agreements begin to show. An edge repeats where it should end. A colour arrives without the body that carried it. Yesterday’s form persists inside the next frame. Glitch is the moment these incompatible instructions cease pretending they have always been one.
In this work, fracture is not a decorative punishment applied to a clean original. It is a way of exposing relation. Signal rupture divides the field into displaced blocks and scanline tears. Chromatic interference lets different sources contend through colour channels. Mirrored folding makes one fragment answer itself around a centre. Each process gives disagreement a different body. Some disputes look violent; others produce an almost ceremonial symmetry. Neither appearance guarantees that the worlds underneath have become identical.
02
Memory is an interested witness
Feedback makes this negotiation temporal. The preceding frame is not merely displayed and discarded; it returns to participate in the next image. Memory changes the balance between that return and incoming material. At high retention, a form can leave a long wake. At lower retention, new sources can displace it more quickly. What remains visible is therefore not only a meeting of images. It is a meeting between what is entering and what refuses to leave.
This produces a useful difficulty for the observer. A new gesture does not always receive an immediate clean answer. It enters a field with a past. If the composition feels buried, lower Memory before replacing every source. If it feels thin, let it accumulate before demanding a new process. Clear causal memory starts the field’s visual history again, but keeps the selected sources; it is not the same decision as clearing sculpted brush shapes. A universe has more than one kind of inheritance.
03
Convergence without surrender
Morphing is the negotiation by which different realities become one visible event without needing to become the same reality. A source may emerge as a contour, another as colour, another as a rhythm of arrival. The result can stop resembling its ingredients while still carrying their pressure. Work toward a relation you can feel: an opening that keeps moving, a surface that remembers a wound, a stable centre with a disobedient edge. Give the experiment a question more precise than making it stranger.
Then allow a stopping point. Pause when a particular state carries the tension you wanted. Capture it, or record the movement that makes it legible. The final result is not a repaired universe in which every seam has vanished. It is a chosen convergence: this arrangement, this duration, this witness. Another observer could hold a different instant without invalidating yours. The infinity within the cog is not resolved by the artwork. The artwork gives it a temporary, fiercely particular surface.
